Doggy Diary

Rocco: I am very lucky some days where the staff at Pets in the City allow me to sit with them in the office where I get my own blanket and chair to sit on. I do feel really spoiled sometimes ha-ha. After an energetic walk it is now time for my afternoon siesta; catch up with you guys soon!. Read more…

Dog Boarding

Our Principle:

Leaving your dog behind when you go away can be extremely stressful for both you and your dog which is why Pets in the City provides a service that strives to make it as stress free as possible by providing a "Home from Home" environment.

We provide a home for your dog where they will become part of the family for the duration of their stay. They will sleep inside on one of our lush soft beds or their own bed if you would prefer. We have NO kennels, NO cages, and NO outside living arrangements.

How it works:

As part of our Pets in the City Team, we have two carers whose sole job is to look after a select few dogs in their homes. Our carers only take between 1-3 dogs at a time and all dogs are given a "trial night" prior to their stay which ensures we only have fun, friendly and sociable dogs in our care.

We will ask you to fill out and submit a required Agreement Form which you can find at the bottom of this page, and after that has been accepted we will organise a 'Trial Night' at your convenience. A Trial Night is requested so that we can make sure that there will be no problems when it actually comes to your holiday away. With the Trial Night we are making sure that your dog is suitable for the Home from Home service and that there are no behavioural problems that might subject other dogs to any harm.
Once this has been done and passed, you can then go on your holiday knowing that your dog is comfortable with their holiday accommodation and you can relax in peace.

What to expect on a typical day:

  • Wake up to a hearty breakfast of your choice.
  • A long walk through one of many parks or countryside hikes.
  • A second walk is done in the afternoon after a relaxing lunch time break.
  • Throughout the day the dogs can either relax, sleep, play in the garden or carry on with whatever they would normally do in their own home.
  • Evening meals are dished out to the extreme excitement of all pups.
  • Your dog would then spend the evening curled up watching a movie or joining in in a game of Monopoly!
  • At night time they would sleep in one of our doggy beds or their own bed brought from home.

How to book:

Its really rather easy…..

1) Fill out the Agreement form which you will find at the bottom of this page and send it to us at sarah@petsincity.com outlining your dates for your holiday, or give us a call on 0208 962 0700
2) We will organise a Trial Night at your convenience.
3) If all goes well with the Trial Night, then we will book your dog in for their holiday.
4) A 50% non-refundable deposit will be requested to confirm your book and then the final sum is due on the first day of service.

What do you need to provide?

The only thing that we require is that all vaccinations be up to date, and that your dog has a collar with a name tag.
If you would like us to provide food then that can be arranged at an added cost.
We have beds, toys, leads but you are more than welcome to bring your dog's own for their added comfort. Please not that we are not liable for any damage done to personal items whilst in our care.

A bit more about the accommodation:

We have two homes that we board our dogs with. Here is a little bit more about them. (You can also see their profile on our 'Staff' page)

Julia Marris:

Julia has owned dogs for all of her adult life after growing up on a farm Lincolnshire surruonded by dogs and animals. Her primary focus used to be horses as she is a qualified AI and I level horse instuctor and used to work for Rosemary Morris – one of the UK's leadig horse trainers and judges.

Using her lifelong knowledge of and love for dogs she now runs boarding from her beautiful Georgian Manor house close to the quaint market town of Newark where she has transformed the origional kitchen into a huge play area – Aga and all!

Julia is a City & Guilds (advanced) qualified dog groomer and is open for boarding 365 days a year which means the dogs can enjoy the lush fields, woods and countryside walks whatever the weather.

She is also Sarah's sister!

Jayne in Hampshire:

Her love of animals has been life long. She was born in India but grew up in Africa, the perfect place to fuel her love of nature and the outdoors. She spent much of her childhood scouring the bush and ripping out wire snares set by poachers to capture the native deer, impala, with Sasha her loyal German Shepherd running around nearby.

She loved to help out at the lion and cheetah park, and was in her element when one year she got to hand feed an orphaned lion! Jayne was always finding injured birds which she would bring home and nurse back to health.

Through Cats Protection, Jayne did an animal husbandry course (mainly covering health, hygiene & disease), much of which applies to dogs too.

Jayne also has a full background of owning and rescuing dogs of her own. She has spent many years fostering dogs and is still currently fundraiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind and the PDSA.

She has now turned to putting all of her attention into making her boarding dogs have the holiday of a lifetime. With Hampshire on her doorstep, her walks range from lakes, forests to open countryside. Her lovely country cottage is then the perfect pad to crash after a day of exploring.
Living next to a beautiful lake, she can make full use of it during the summer as a form of a hydrotherapy pool for those dogs with mobility issues.
